Dresden to Prague – very attractive touristic route between two cities of different states. Mutual distance is only 110km and is covered by regular direct train and bus services.

Dresden is capital city of German federal republic Saxony (Sachsen) and is distanced only 40km away from border with Czech republic. On the other side capital of Czech republic Prague is only 110 km away from German-Czech border.

Dresden to Prague by bus

Dresden has a direct bus connection with Prague with 20+ departures per day. The journey takes only 2 hours. There is also a good rail connection between both cities.

Flixbus: Every hour from 6:30 till 21:35 in Dresden and from 7:15 till 21: 35 in Prague.

StudentAgency: Nearly every 2 hours from 7:00 till 18:00 on path Dresden to Prague and from 9:50 till 21:50 on path Prague to Dresden.

Postbus: Dresden to Prague- 10:00, 17:30, 21:30; Prague to Dresden – 6:45, 9:00, 18:00.

Berlinlinienbus: Dresden to Prague – 10:00, 17:30, 21:30; Prague to Dresden – 6:45, 9:00, 18:00.

Dresden to Prague by train

Travel need to know that North part of Czech rep. has rich coal mining history and region is full with coal mines. Thus using train is most ecological means of transportation on route between Dresden and Prague. There is no internet connection in international train. On the other hand route offer extraordinary sceneries on Czech highlands and hills.

Starting early at 7 AM, trains leave continuously every 2 hour till 7 PM. Journey takes for EuroCity trains approximately 2:18 hours. Last train arrive to Prague around 9:25 PM.  Price for adult person is 29€ for Saver fare, 34,60€ for Standard fare.

Other way is to use combination of local trains on both side of border. This journey takes approximately 3:33 hours. It is necessary to change local trains in Bad Schandau (Germany) and Dečín (Czech republic).

Trains from Prague central train station leave early at 6:30 AM, trains leave continuously every 2 hour till 6:30 PM. Journey takes for EuroCity trains also 2:15 hours. Last train arrive to Prague around 8:45 PM.

Other way is to use combination of local trains on both side of border. This journey takes approximately 3:33 hours. It is necessary to change local trains in Dečín (Czech republic) and Schöna (Germany).

Dresden to Prague by car

Reaching Dresden from Prague or Prague from Dresden by car is relatively easy. Only certain section of cross-border high-way connection is still not complete. Therefore is necessary to leave autobahn on German side of high-way on Czech side and get over the border on rural road.

Rented cars in Germany should be assigned with insurance allowing cross-border transfer. It is not same for Czech cars. In both cases, please inform about cross-border vehicle transfer and its insurance.

Driving directions from Dresden:

  • At first get on the Autobahn A17 connecting West part of Dresden and border of Czech republic
  • Follow A17 and D8/E55 to Řehlovice, Czech republic. Take exit 65 from D8/E55 (apx. 59 km).
  • Take Route 25832 to E55 in Velemín. This route takes you across hill villages and rural environment (apx. 15 km).
  • Get beck on the high-way at E55. Follow the road to the Prague (apx. 60 km).
